Counselors worry Kansas isn’t ready for gambling problems that’ll follow legalized sports betting

The legalization of sports betting was widely celebrated this September, with Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly placing a $15 bet on the Chiefs. But some counselors who treat problem gambling worry that sports betting could lead to an increase in addiction — and they say that Kansas isn’t allocating enough resources to handle it.

Kansas Governor candidates disagree on how to improve school safety

TOPEKA (KNS) — A grant to fund school safety projects only has enough cash to fulfill half the requests it receives annually. The Safe and Secure Schools Grant has $4 million of state funding with an additional $1 million coming from the federal government. It pays for things like beefing up entryways, security cameras, communication systems and other ways to fortify schools against attacks and natural disasters.

Millions of birds are migrating across Kansas under cover of night, and they need your help

A head-spinning number of birds will fly over Kansas and Missouri on Wednesday and Thursday nights. Scientists say they need your help. For starters, turn off any outdoor lights you can this time of year. Shut your blinds and curtains to keep your kitchen and living room lights from spilling into the night so that fewer birds die on their journey south by colliding into buildings or landing in cities and suburbs packed with danger.

How Long Were The Days of Creation?

It is the contention of many, even many Christians that the days of creation had to have been much longer than 24-hour days. There are those that insist that the earth as we know it took millions, even billions of years to become what it is today. In this short article I will not attempt to argue with science or evolution (not that the arguments can’t be made). I will only be looking at this topic from a Bible believing point of view. Many Bible believing people will note 2 Peter 3:8, “But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day” and concede that the creation days could thus be a thousand years each. However, 2 Peter 3:8 taken in context has nothing at all to do with the time required to create the earth, in its context it is referring to the second coming of Christ and the day of judgment. In part this verse is telling us that God is not restricted in time as we are. If we take this idea of a day being a thousand years and follow it through to its logical end, we have questions that come up. If this is true then God would have rested for a thousand years after creating Adam and Eve. Scripture tells us that Adam lived some 930, was God resting for Adam’s entire life time? Since we see in scripture that God was in the garden with them it is clear that this is not the case.
