Whitewater legal notice issue leads to fixed budget More Revenue Neutral Rate publication hiccups found

WHITEWATER – The city of Whitewater, a small town that sits on the line of Butler and Harvey Counties, was looking at collecting more tax revenue in the next budget year than they did in the past. Whitewater Mayor Brady Gragg said the city was looking for about $14,000 in revenue, for a community of just more than 660 residents. Using a combination of increased property evaluation and mill levy increases, the city budgeted more expenditures.

Shopper’s Guide ceasing publication

The Newton Kansan and CherryRoad Media will cease production of the South Central Kansas Shopper’s Guide. “We are moving away from weekly advertising only publications because we cannot get enough advertising to cover the cost of printing and distribution,” said Jeremy Gulban, owner and publisher of CherryRoad Media.

TOPEKA — A constitutional amendment on the November ballot would take away local attorneys’ abilities to investigate sheriffs. Some citizens and lawyers are worried that Kansas voters don’t know the full implications of rewriting the constitution to remove the ability of local district attorneys to start legal proceedings against local sheriffs if they believe there’s been misconduct.
