WICHITA, Kansas — Kansas lawmakers have advanced legislation that would bar transgender women from women’s bathrooms, women’s prisons, women’s locker rooms and domestic violence shelters. Critics see the bill as a political attack on transgender and intersex people, and organizations that support victims of sexual violence said it could jeopardize the money they get from the federal government.

STAND recognized at State Capitol

Recently a contingent of 44 STAND members from Hesston, Newton, Peabody, and Sedgwick attended Mental Health Advocacy Day at the Kansas State Capitol in Topeka. Students were invited to be recognized in both the House of Representatives and the Senate during session for their work in area schools to prevent drug, alcohol and tobacco use.
