United States flag facts and handling etiquette
The United States flag was first imagined after the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. The Continental Congress authorized creation of the first national flag on June 14, 1777. It was decided that the flag should have 13 stripes, alternating red and white, to represent the original 13 colonies, and that the new union be represented by 13 white stars in a blue field to signify a “new constellation.” Francis Hopkinson, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, is most often credited with the original design.

Bethel College announces new coffee shop partnership
In a nod to how things were when Bethel College President John Gering was a student at the school, the college will fill what was then Bubbert’s and later Mojos by entering into a contract with the college food service provider.
City to investigate ‘levelized payment plans’ for utility bill
John Van Meter stepped to the podium for public comment May 23 at the Newton City Commission meeting - and he wanted to speak for a few minutes about water rates in Newton.
“My request is for the commission to initiate and adopt a program which will allow levelized payment plans for the Newton utility service: water, sewer, and trash,” Van Meter said.
