Sand Creek Summer Daze reaching out to area towns
The goal for the fifth edition of Sand Creek Summer Daze is to grow - namely to grow outside of Newton. “This year we have made a concerted effort to grow the festival more into a regional festival,” said Andrea Braker, a festival board member.

Federal judge rules Wichita Starbucks broke labor law during union drive
A federal judge ruled that management at a local Starbucks store violated labor law when its employees tried to unionize last year. The ruling says managers at the Starbucks at 21st and Amidon told employees they could lose their benefits if they unionized.

Election filings for the 2023 city/school election in November are now complete, as the deadline for those filings at the county clerk’s office was June 1. And with those filings now complete, it is guaranteed there will be new faces on the Newton city commission and Newton USD 373 Board of Education.
Man arrested for alleged ATM theft in several Kansas counties
HARVEY COUNTY – The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) with the help of federal, state, and local law enforcement, arrested a man following a lengthy multi-state investigation into ATM theft at colleges and universities.
County legal services seeking funding increases
When the state of Kansas added two judges to Harvey County District nine, it changed how the court operates – and it had effects outside of the courtroom. The move increased the capacity of the court, increased the space needs for facilities and sent both the county prosecutor and indigent defense panel scrambling.
