Airport improvements could be on the way
As part of a pavement inspection program for Kansas airports, Runway 8-26 pavement has been classified in need of either reconstruction or major rehabilitation.“It is poor condition,” said Brian Palmer, manager of the airport. As a result, the FAA has requested that the airport study five (5) pavement section alternatives and perform a pavement design and cost analysis on each to determine a preferred alternative, prior to finalizing the project in the FAA’s regional capital improvement plan and moving forward with design for the project. The price tag of each of those projects is dramatically different, and each has a different usable life for the finished product.A rehabilitation project would cost about $2.5 million, with a usable life of about 10 years.
