Voting in the Kansas Presidential Preference Primary began March 5 in Harvey County.“I voted this morning, I think I was the first one,” said Don Schroeder, county commissioner, on March 5.It is understandable that voters might find this a bit confusing – with a primary election on the calendar later this year and national media concentrating on the presidential primary.

Despite some parents’ pleas, Wichita USD 259 board votes for closing 6 schools

Wichita school board members voted 5-2 Monday to close six schools at the end of the academic year.USD 259 faces a $42 million budget deficit due to falling enrollment, the end of federal pandemic relief funds and a $1.2 billion maintenance backlog.Administrators estimate the district will save $16 million next year from shutting down Hadley Middle School, Jardine STEM and Career Explorations Academy, Clark Elementary, Park Elementary, Payne Elementary and Cleaveland Traditional College and Career Readiness Magnet Elementary.Administrators said they focused on schools with low enrollment, buildings in poor condition and small classrooms.

Harris named chairman of NAHB

Kansas kicks off in-person advance voting for 2024 presidential preference primary

TOPEKA — Secretary of State Scott Schwab said in-person advance voting would run through March 18 for Kansans interested in leaving their mark on the state’s Republican and Democratic presidential preference primaries.The frontrunner in the respective contests were President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, who were the preference of Kansans in 2020.
