Effective medical diagnosis depends not just on looking, but on truly perceiving. Recognizing this, many medical training programs have adopted Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) discussions about art to enhance studentsskills in nuanced observation, inference, and communication. In 2004, Harvard Medical School pioneered use of VTS within medical education to refine the diagnostic and interpersonal skills of future healthcare professionals. Now, VTS is embraced in over 30 medical schools.

In the garden: The garden show is coming in March

One of the purposes of the Harvey County Home and Garden Show is providing an opportunity to learn! Each year we have eleven lawn and garden seminars for the citizens of Harvey County and surrounding area co come and learn from one or all of the programs. This year if you are interested in learning how to grow mushrooms, plants with indoor blooms or weather this is the place for you. March 22 and 23 are the dates and it is held at the Dyck Arboretum in Hesston.

In the garden: Success with potatoes

My favorite potato varieties to plant are Red Norland and Yukon Gold. Fortunately, there are many varieties to choose from now days so everyone can have a favorite if they choose. It is almost potato planting time! Mid-March to April is planting time for spring potatoes. Begin with disease-free tubers from a reputable source. Potatoes from the grocery store may not produce a large yield compared with certified seed potatoes.
