Bike run takes over Cassoday

The Cassoday bike run is a motorcycle rally that occurs the first Sunday of every month March through October in Cassoday, 38 miles east of Newton on First Street. This month the run was June 3. Cassody is at the intersection of the Kansas Turnpike and U.S. 177 in the Flint Hills. It was started by some bikers, stopping at a small cafe in town one day back in 1991. Rebels blank Derby at Jamboree

KINGMAN — Because of the weather, the participation of the Newton Sluggin’ Rebels in the Jayhawk League Pre-Season Jamboree was limited to a single game against the Derby Twins Saturday at Riverside Park in Kingman. Newton won a pitcher’s duel 2-0.

Kansas Mennonite Relief Sale raises more than $600K

MCPHERSON – May 25 the Kansas Mennonite Relief Sale held its Annual Meeting at First Mennonite Church of McPherson. This year’s theme was “Walking with Jesus…. spreading the love of God around the World”. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of $610,000 to the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) Central States Office.

Hesston College club donates to New Hope

The Hesston College Nursing Club recently made a pair of donations to New Hope Shelter in Newton – the first donation consisted of clothes, food, supplies and the second a $1,000 check. “One of the many reasons that we want to become nurses is because we want to help people,” said 2023 nursing club president Michelle Ramos-Carreno, a senior in the college’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.
