Prep girls Central Kansas League Pratt 48, Halstead 43 OT HALSTEAD – Lexi Walker scored 30 points to lead the Pratt High School girls’ basketball team to a 48-43 win over Halstead Tuesday in CKL play in Halstead. Halstead trailed 12-7 after the first Halstead trailed 12-7 after the first quarter, but tied the game 23-23 at the half.

Berean girls rally to stop Remington

WHITEWATER – All the elements were in place for Remington’s girls to put the first blemish on Berean Academy’s unbeaten record Tuesday night. The host Broncos led by as many as nine points in the first half, taking a 22-13 advantage with 5:06 remaining before halftime.

Late rally falls short for Newton boys

The Newton High School boys’ basketball team took too long to get things rolling, falling to Campus 58-50 Tuesday in AV-CTL I play at Ravenscroft Gym. The Railers won the final three quarters of play, but found themselves down 10 points after the first quarter.

Spring football signing period begins

Feb. 2 was the start of the official National Letter of Intent spring signing day in football for NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA and several area athletes have reported and been confirmed by their intended colleges as signing.

Youth MMA competitors descend on Newton

This last weekend dozens of mixed martial arts fighters came to Newton to compete – though the MMA bouts looked a little different that what is seen on television. A youth tournament, there were some extra rules in place.

Third-quarter run hampers Railer boys

The Newton High School boys’ basketball team got off to the start it wanted but lapses in the third and fourth quarters led to a 61-51 loss to Hutchinson Friday in AVCTL I play at Ravenscroft Gym. “They punched us in the mouth at the start of the second half,” Newton coach Andy Preston said.
