Railer boys fall to Maize South

MAIZE – The Newton High School boys’ basketball team fell to Maize South 73-31 Friday in AV-CTL I play at Maize. Newton trailed 11-9 after the first quarter and 33-23 at the half.

Railers win one title at regionals

AUBURN – The Newton High School girls’ wrestling team qualified just one entry for the Class 6-5A state tournament, but that entry is in good shape for a chance at a medal. Jaymie Murry won the title at 143 pounds to advance.

Kicking off

The Newton Recreation Commission recently finished setting up the gymnasium for indoor soccer, and Feb. 11 hosted a youth indoor soccer clinic.

Carolyn Martens

Mrs. Carolyn Martens, 82, of Newton Kansas went home to be with the Lord February 7, 2022, after an extended illness. She was born March 16, 1939 at Trumann, Arkansas to Jimmie and Frances Owens. She grew up in Memphis Tennessee.

Wilma Mae Brown

Wilma Mae (Potee) Brown, 91, passed away on January 14, 2022, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston, KS. She was born April 23, 1930 in Ames, IA to Lindley and Daisy (Stoll) Potee.

Lewis Carl Stark

Lewis Carl Stark was born February 16, 1932 in Newton, KS. He met Jesus and had his sight restored on February 7, 2022. He was the son of Gus and Ella (Reiss) of Newton. Lewis was a life-long member of Newton Nazarene Church. He gave his life to Jesus at the age of 33. He loved to share his faith and if anyone had doubts about where they were spending eternity he would share John 14:6 and urge them to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. His life of service included driving the church bus for 22 years, transporting foster children, medical transports and foster parenting. He lost his eyesight on Monday, June 13, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the age of 79. Lewis or “Lewie” as he was known to his coworkers,retired as Supervisor from Cessna Wallace after more than 45 years of dedicated service.
