MAIZE – The Newton High School boys’ basketball team fell to Maize South 73-31 Friday in AV-CTL I play at Maize. Newton trailed 11-9 after the first quarter and 33-23 at the half.

AUBURN – The Newton High School girls’ wrestling team qualified just one entry for the Class 6-5A state tournament, but that entry is in good shape for a chance at a medal. Jaymie Murry won the title at 143 pounds to advance.
