Goessel girls edged by Macksville
GOESSEL – The Goessel Bluebird girls’ basketball team saw a comeback fall just short, falling to Macksville 43-39 Friday in the quarterfinals of the Class 1A, Division I sub-state tournament in Goessel.

GOESSEL – The Goessel Bluebird boys’ basketball team opened post-season competition with a 72-43 win over Burrton in the quarterfinals of the Class 1A, Division I sub-state tournament in Goessel. Goessel led 11-3 after the first quarter and 31-23 at the half.
The Bethel College softball team claimed a split against Hastings College Sunday at Allen Jantz Field. Hastings won the first game 6-0 and Bethel won the second game 9-6.

PARK CITY – As a sophomore in her first season of Class 6-5A girls’ state competition, Newton High School’s Jaymie Murray was just happy to be there and even happier to come away with the Railers’ first-ever medal at state.

Prep girls Heart of America Ell-Saline 49, Moundridge 33 BROOKVILLE – The Moundridge High School girls suffered a setback, falling to Ell-Saline 49-33 in Heart of America League play in Brookville. Moundridge trailed 10-7 after the first quarter and 24-14 at the half.
The McPherson College men’s basketball team achieved most of what it wanted to do Thursday in the KCAC post-season tournament quarterfinals against the Bethel Threshers. McPherson kept the pace slow and the score down, but Bethel’s Jaylon Scott’s 35 points and 10 rebounds paced the 20th-ranked (NAIA) and second-seeded Threshers to a 68-65 win.
WICHITA – Newton High School senior Emma Brockman placed 10th Wednesday at the Class 5-4-3-2-1A regional bowling tournament to qualify for state as an individual. Brockman rolled games of 190, 154 and 178 to finish with a 522 series.
