Inisght Kansas: Hard Questions about the APEX Deal

Kansas Democrats and many Republicans finally agree on something–but is it a good deal? The so-called APEX deal raises more questions than answers. With Governor Kelly’s support, Republican leaders in the Kansas Legislature rushed through the most generous tax package in the state’s history, offering a previously unheard-of $1 billion in tax incentives to an unnamed company, along with a cut in the state’s corporate tax rate.

1 1/2 pound hamburger 1/3 cup chopped onion 1 can cream of mushroom soup* 2 quart cooked and shredded potatoes 8 ounces sour cream 1 cup Ranch dressing* 8 ounces Mozzarella cheese 1/2 pound bacon, fried and crumbled Fry and drain hamburger and onions then add 1 teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper. Mix with remaining ingredients except bacon and cheese.

Halstead wrestlers claim two medals at 3-2-1A state

HAYS – The Halstead High School boys’ wrestling team claimed two medals out of three competitors Friday and Saturday at the Class 3-2-1A state championships at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays. Kaleb Wise finished third at 220 pounds, while Clayton Considine finished fifth at 106 pounds.

Scott’s 35 keeps Bethel season alive

For the second year in a row and the third time in school history, the Bethel College men’s basketball team has punched its ticket to the NAIA national tournament, following a 66-63 win over Southwestern Saturday night in the KCAC post-season tournament semifinals at Thresher Gym.

Railer boys, girls fall to Maize

MAIZE – The Newton High School girls’ basketball team ended the regular season with a 51-26 loss to Maize Friday in AV-CTL I play in Maize. Newton trailed 21-5 after the first quarter, 30- 14 at the half and 38-21 after three quarters.

Goessel girls edged by Macksville

GOESSEL – The Goessel Bluebird girls’ basketball team saw a comeback fall just short, falling to Macksville 43-39 Friday in the quarterfinals of the Class 1A, Division I sub-state tournament in Goessel.

Goessel boys advance with win

GOESSEL – The Goessel Bluebird boys’ basketball team opened post-season competition with a 72-43 win over Burrton in the quarterfinals of the Class 1A, Division I sub-state tournament in Goessel. Goessel led 11-3 after the first quarter and 31-23 at the half.
