In 1969-70, I was a Navy disc jockey at the American Forces Vietnam Network in Saigon. A project to rebuild, resurface and expand Hesston Road began March 14, with a portion of the road just east of Newton closed for crews to being milling asphalt and cutting concrete. “The road will not be closed from end to end for the duration,” said Jim Meier, superintendent of the Harvey County Road and Bridge Department.
