VALLEY CENTER — The Newton High School baseball team opened the season with solid pitching and opportunistic base running, but too many errors in a 5-4 loss to Garden City Thursday in the first round of the Valley Center Invitational.
ARKANSAS CITY – The Hesston College softball team was swept by Cowley College Thursday in Jayhawk Conference play in Arkansas City. Hesston dropped the first game 3-1 and the second game 9-4.

Tuesday was a day of discussions about recycling - the Harvey County Commission took a look at revisiting a decision made earlier this month, while the Newton City Commission looked at how that decision might affect them.
The spring sports season has arrived, and with it, my first spring sports season postponement. Such is the way of the world, but it brings me a chance to bring you this chance to bring the winter sports season to a close.
