Railer golfers fifth at Central

SALINA — The Newton High School boys’ golf team opened the season with a fifth-place finish Monday at the seven-team Salina Central Invitational at the Salina Municipal Golf Course. Topeka Seaman won the team title at 301, followed by Hutchinson at 328 and Salina South at 331.

Newton soccer team puts up numbers against Ark City

It’s been a long time since the Newton High School girls’ soccer team showed the offensive fireworks demonstrated Tuesday in a 10-0 win over Arkansas City at Fischer Field. The game was ended with 23 seconds remaining on the 10-goal rule.

NHS baseball team splits with Panthers

The Newton High School baseball team was on point for one game and struggled in another, leading to a twinbill split with Derby Tuesday to open AV-CTL I play. Newton won the first game 8-7 in nine innings and lost the second game 15-6.

In my first month on the job at Newton High School, I quickly realized that Newton is a special community. As I toured the community and spoke to leaders and organizations, the willingness to support our mission was incredible. Nearly two years later, I have realized that the Newton and USD 373 community truly cares for its own.

Elementary hosts fun night at NRC

The Sunset Elementary PTO’s hosted a Family Fun Night on April Fool’s Day, taking over the Newton Recreation Center for about two hours on a Friday night. Activities offered that night included balloon animals, gym activites, cornhole, large yard games, dodgeball and face painting in addition to a light meal being served.

Railers claim their first win of the season
