Kelly signs ‘sanctuary city’ bill

Kansas Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly signed a Republican-backed bill on Monday that will thwart hard-fought efforts by the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kansas, to issue municipal IDs to residents unable to get legal photo IDs.

Paul Gerhard Buhr passed away unexpectedly on April 4th, 2022. Paul was born on November 29, 1952 in Goessel, KS to loving parents, Gerhard and Mildred Buhr, joining his two older brothers. His early childhood was spent in the close-knit Bethel College community in North Newton, KS where he attended elementary school and the Bethel College Mennonite Church.

Hallie Delphine Fields Lindsey

Hallie Delphine Fields Lindsey, 76, passed away on April 1, 2022 peacefully at her home in Oxnard, California where she lived for over 50 years. Hallie was born on September 26, 1945 to William and Hallie (Green) Fields in Newton Kansas; the youngest of five from this union but also the youngest in a large extended family with 13 half siblings.

Hesston golfers compete twice LAWRENCE — The Hesston High School golf team competed in two tournaments in two days, taking sixth out of 12 teams Monday at the Andover Central Invitational at the Terradyne Country Club in Andover and third Tuesday at the seven-team Bishop Seabury Academy Invitational at the Jayhawk Club in Lawrence. At the Andover Central meet, Goddard Eisen At the Andover Central meet, Goddard Eisenhower won at 297, followed by Andover at 301 and Andover Central at 324.

Railer track teams 1-2 at Montgomery County Classic

INDEPENDENCE — The Newton High School boys’ track team claimed a first-place finish, while the Railer girls took second Tuesday at the Montgomery County Classic in Independence. The Railer boys nipped Chanute for the team title 119-116, while Arkansas City was third at 92.
