Denver claims third straight title

While Newton’s Sand Creek Station may rank high in elevation, but it was the men from the Mile High City who came in and claimed the title at the 40th Summit League Championships. The Denver University Pioneers edged North Dakota State 850-851 to win the title for the third straight year.

Newton softball squad takes 2 from Colts

HAYSVILLE — The Newton High School softball team had another close game and another blowout, claiming a second sweep of the Campus Colts this season. The Railers stopped Campus 6-1 in the first game and 16-0 in four innings in the second game Friday at the Southlake Softball Complex in Haysville.

Railer track teams fifth, sixth at El Dorado

EL DORADO – The Newton High School girls’ track team finished fifth, while the boys were sixth Friday at the El Dorado Invitational at the BG Products Stadium. The meet was called because of weather with two events remaining for both the boys and girls.

Defense shines in Butler Grizzlies football spring game

Defense felt two steps ahead on Sunday as the Butler Grizzlies held their annual Purple & White spring game at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex. Chance Omli returned an interception 37 yards for their only score of the day but with traditional scoring, points for the defense would be tough to come by.
