Some rural areas near Kansas tornado had no siren coverage

Associated Press Sedgwick County officials acknowledge that some residents living in rural areas likely did not hear sirens going off before an EF-3 tornado roared through parts of the Kansas county last week. While much of the attention after the April 29 night storm focused on the heavily populated Wichita suburb of Andover, rural areas close to the city and in adjacent Butler County also sustained significant damage from a tornado that was on the ground for nearly 13 miles (20.92 kilometers).

PANCREATIC CANCER IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO DETECT EARLY

Dear Doctors: My uncle had been feeling nauseous, so he saw his doctor. He figured it was a stomach bug. After getting an MRI, he was diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer. He died just two months later. Needless to say, our family is in shock. Is this cancer always so dangerous? Why is it so hard to diagnose?

MCMURRAY, LOREN WILSON. Died peacefully on April 27, 2022, at age 91 in Mesa, AZ. Survived by Helen, his wife of 68 years; children Emily (George) Simon, Lisa (Steven) Northey, and Jeffrey (Nancy); granddaughters Mallory and Lauren McMurray; and nephew Greg Warner. Predeceased by parents Glen Wilson and Zella Jane McMurray and sister Mary Lou Warner. Loren was a graduate of Newton (Kansas) High School and Kansas State University. He served in the U.S. Air Force (Korea) before beginning his career in real estate at Phillips Petroleum Company. He went on to work for Ford Land Development in Dearborn, Michigan, for nearly 30 years, retiring in 1995. An avid golfer, he worked after retirement as a starter at the Foothills Golf Club in Phoenix and at the Cattails Golf Club in South Lyon, Michigan. Interment at Glen Eden Memorial Park, Livonia, MI.

Railer soccer team wins The Newton High School girls’ soccer team claimed a 4-1 win over Campus-Clearwater Thursday in AV-CTL I play at Fischer Field. The win was Newton’s second straight.

Railer tennis team fourth at league

HAYSVILLE – The Newton High School boys’ tennis team finished fourth, claiming a doubles finalist, Tuesday at the Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Division I Championships Tuesday at Campus High School.

Primaries test violent dishonesty

On April 21st I went to the Top Notch Diner in Cortland OH. Senate candidate Josh Mandel appeared with retired General Michael Flynn, former National Security Advisor in the Trump administration. I listened to Flynn tell the crowd “The election was stolen,” and Mandel brag about being the only candidate in his race to call out the theft.
