HUTCHINSON — It was back-to-back shutouts for the Newton High School baseball team Friday against Hutchinson in AV-CTL I play at Hobart-Detter Field. Newton won the first game 9-0 and the second game 8-0.
LINDSBORG – The Hesston High School boys’ tennis team qualified both doubles entries along with a singles player to state after winning the Class 3-2-1A Regionals Friday in Lindsborg. Hesston edged league rival Smoky Valley for the team title 14-12.
DERBY – The Newton High School boys’ track team claimed the title of the 11-team Derby Invitational Friday. The Railer girls were sixth in the meet.
WINFIELD — The Bethel College men’s track team finished eighth and the women finished ninth Thursday and Friday at the KCAC Championships at Jantz Stadium in Winfield. Saint Mary won both the men’s and women’s team titles over Friends — 215-118.5 for the men and 228-154 for the win.
