The Central Kansas Youth Rodeo Association hosted its first two days of competition of 2022 on May 21 and 22 at the McPherson County Fairgrounds in Canton. The association is geared for kindergarten through the 12thgrade competitors.

Railer track teams to send 15 athletes to state

EMPORIA – There were some disappointments and some surprises for the Newton High School track teams Friday at the Class 5A regional meet at Emporia State’s Welch Stadium. The Railers qualified 15 athletes in 14 events to the state meet with top-four regional finishes.

Death penalty must fall as Kansas reckons with violent racial past

Kansas has a violent racial history, and the death penalty just might stand as that history’s cruelest expression. We should end this practice now and try to live up to our sunnier narrative as the “Free State.” The pending death penalty prosecution of Cornell McNeal in Wich ita offers an opportunity for us to do just that.

Horton scores in two events at state

LENEXA – Newton junior Madison Horton reached the consolation finals in two events Friday and Saturday at the Class 5-4-3-2-1A State Swimming and Diving Championships at the Shawnee Mission District Aquatic Center.
