Summer Bash celebrates city’s founding

Just a few blocks where the town of Newton was likely born, and in the blocks of Main Street due north of the first well drilled in town, the city of Newton hosted the Newton150 Summer Bash on June 4.

Sluggin’ Rebels open with road wins

WELLINGTON — The Newton Sluggin’ Rebels claimed a weekend sweep of Kansas Collegiate League teams on the road to open the season. Newton topped Valley Center 11-2 Friday in Valley Center and the Wellington Heat 7-6 Saturday in Wellington.

As Legislative Session Closes, Ghost Gun Bans Die in Committee

National attention has turned, once again, to the gun debate following the horrific events at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas last month. One day prior to the school shooting that killed 19 children and 2 adults, the Kansas legislature adjourned without taking action on proposed bills aimed to ban so called “ghost guns”, like the one used in the shooting at Olathe East High School in March of this year.

Knights open season with split at Salina

SALINA — After two dates of rainouts, the Newton Post 2 Knights American Legion baseball team opened the season with a split Friday night against the Salina Eagles in Salina. Newton won the first game 6-3 and lost the nightcap 8-4.
