Cars in park on holiday weekend

The first Saturday in July is traditionally Newton Car Show In The Park, with cars on display in the grassy areas north of Fischer Field. This year rain swept through the area on the morning of July 2 - and the show was altered a bit.

Vegetables maturing in the cool, crisp days of fall are often better flavored than those maturing in the hot, dry days of late spring and summer. Stripes beat Stars in SCL All-Star Game

HUTCHINSON — The Stripes squad, which consisted of players from the Great Bend Bat Cats, Kingman Islanders, Derby Twins and Cheney Diamond Dawgs, used some early power and took advantage of middle inning walks and errors, to claim a 15-4 win over the Stars squad Tuesday night in the Sunflower Collegiate League All-Star Game at Hobart-Detter Field in Hutchinson.

Fireworks season closes with no injuries, property losses

While fireworks kept some awake, and their pets scared, they did relatively little damage in the city of Newton. According to Steve Roberson, chief of Newton Fire/EMS, the Independence Day weekend saw a higher-than-normal call volume - but the calls received were mostly medical calls.
