Kansas Secretary of State Scott Schwab broke state law by taking action to prevent provisional ballot information from becoming public, the state’s second-highest court ruled on Friday. The judges said that Schwab, a Republican, told a private company in 2020 to shut off a software feature that gave his office easy access to provisional ballot data and which, by extension, allowed the public to request the information.
A new grant from the U.S. Russia Foundation will fund free online Russian language courses for Kansas high school students.

DERBY — Bailyn Sorensen kept the post-season hopes alive for the Newton Sluggin’ Rebels with a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning in a 4-3 win over the Derby Twins in the consolation semifinals of the Sunflower Collegiate League tournament at Panther Field in Derby.
PITTSBURG — Dodge City’s Emanuel Aguilar drilled a 29-yard field goal with 23 seconds left to tie the game for the West team and he thought maybe send it to overtime. That wasn’t the case as the 49th annual Kansas Shrine Bowl ended in a 10-10 tie, the first one since 2001.
Despite the fervent support the Republican leadership has given to the Value Them Both amendment, its fate on August 2 may not tell us much about the current Kansas GOP. But the Republican contest for Kansas attorney general, by contrast, may actually tell us a great deal.
