Hello again, dear readers, and welcome back to our monthly letters column. We’re in the heart of summer now, and with extreme heat affecting so many parts of the nation, we hope you are doing what you can to stay safe. The heat has generated a lot of mail, and we’ll have a column next week to address your concerns. This includes precautions and strategies, as well as warning signs of heat-related illness.

Be bold and protect America! It’s time to play hardball and mean it! Call a national emergency and mobilize the military to protect our southern border. We seem to be helping everyone else around the world protect theirs.

What did the recount really

As the Editor of this newspaper walked out of the Harvey County Courthouse Friday morning he muttered something under his breath. “That piece of political theater is now over.” He was right, but also probably wrong.

Goessel to host sports preview Goessel Junior High/High School will host its 29th annual Fall Sports Preview Night on Friday, August 26. The evening will include a pulled pork meal, volleyball and football scrimmages, and introductions of all sports teams.

Sand Creek Station hosts qualifiers

The Kansan Staff A field of 62 men and nine women hit the course at Sand Creek Station Wednesday for the USGA Mid-Amateur Qualifiers. The tournaments are open to amateur golfers ages 25 and older no longer on a college team with a handicap of 3.4 for men and 9.4 for women.

Berean spikers optimistic about season

ELBING — The Berean Academy volleyball team is looking at the upcoming season with optimism. Kristin Wiebe begins her fourth season as the coach of the Warriors, assisted by Julie Stewart.
