Future engineers are invited to spend the day at Hesston College to learn more about engineering through onsite exploration, open discussion and a demonstration of the Hesston College student designed ping-pong shooter. Prospective students will also have the opportunity to earn scholarships during Engineering Day at 9 a.m. Oct. 15.
Hesston Road project heads to final stage The Hesston Road resurfacing project will soon progress to its fourth and final stage, as work moves inside the Hesston city limits. The third stage of road work was focused northwest of Hesston, from West Dutch Avenue to Northwest 108th Street.
Newton Recreation Center recently hoste a Pre-School Tae Kwon Do class, for children ages 4 and 5. The s class is an introductory Tae Kwon Do class taught by Dany Monares emphasizing discpline, courtesy, and respect while helping develop motor skills Tae Kwon Do is a Korean style martial art, which literally means the “hand”, “foot”, “way of life.” Monares ends each class with a Korean fable.
Those looking to put down some fall wood chip mulch may be looking for a new supply this year - as a city operated wood chip pile at Centennial Park is depleted. That’s the result of the park department spending a year or so using the wood chip in a different way - rather than chipping it to the public pile.
The Newton High School gymnastics team posted its season-high school of 96.7 Saturday for a fifth-place finish at the Newton Invitational at Ravenscroft Gym. Olathe North won the team title at 105.75, followed by Olathe West at 105.7, Olathe Northwest at 98.45, Olathe East at 97.6, Newton, Olathe South at 95.85 and Emporia at 86.55.
Eight-Man I, District 4 Moundridge 42, Solomon 34 SOLOMON — Henry Hecox rushed for four touchdowns and passed for a fifth in a 42-34 Moundridge win over Solomon Friday in Eight-Man I district play. Tied 22-22 at the half, Moundridge outscored the Gorillas 14-0 in the third quarter, adding another score early in the fourth quarter.
It was another step forward for the 12thranked (NAIA) Bethel College football team in a 31-23 win over the sixthranked Southwestern Moundbuilders Saturday in KCAC play at Thresher Stadium on Fall Fest. Bethel, 6-0 overall and in KCAC play, was able to trade touchdowns for field goals in key situations.
Erlene (Ewy) Farr died on October 5, 2022 at age 84. She was born 0n March 13, 1938 in Newton, KS She was preceded in death by her parents, Waldo & Sarah Ewy and her brother, Marvin Ewy. She is survived by daughters Tracy (Steve) Blake and Vicki (Jeff) Smith, both of Derby; grandsons Eli (Sara) Shunatona and Brett (Samantha) Smith; brothers Harold (Joan) Ewy of Camdenton, MO; Ralph (Cheryl) Ewy of Moore, OK; and sister Karen (Richard) Suenram, Syria VA; as well as 7 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on October 11, 2022 at Woodlawn United Methodist Church at 10am. Stop the poor treatment of animals This week’s case before the US Supreme Court is not about abortion, religious freedom, or gun rights, but whether farm animals are entitled to life before death. The meat industry is challenging California’s 2018 law requiring minimal space and health standards for the animals.
