Railer golfers qualify for state

The Kansan Staff SALINA — For the first time in several years, the Newton High School girls’ golf team qualified for state as a team, taking fourth Monday at the Class 5A regional tournament at the Salina Municipal Golf Course. The top four teams qualify for state.

The Bethel College volleyball team fell to Ottawa in three sets Tuesday in KCAC play at Thresher Gym. Bethel fell 25-23, 25-18, 25-23.

Railers affect outcome of league race

MAIZE — The Newton High School volleyball team hasn’t been in the Ark Valley- Chisholm Trail League race much this season, but the Railers did affect the outcome. Newton split in a league triangular against the two co-leaders Tuesday at Maize.

Frieda Mae Quiring

Frieda Mae Quiring, 84, died on October 7, 2022, at her home in Newton, Kansas. She was born on December 28, 1937, in Goessel, Kansas, the daughter of Cornelius (Curt) and Kathrine (Flaming) Janzen.
