Dear Doctors: My brother-in-law is 57 years old, and he is getting coronary bypass surgery. I don’t want to bother him or my sister with a lot of questions right now, but I do want to understand what is happening. Why is this surgery needed, and how is it done? Will it fix whatever is wrong?

Sub-State volleyball roundup

ANDOVER — The Newton High School volleyball team fell in the finals of the Class 5A sub-state tournament Saturday in Andover. The Railers, seeded 10th in the 18-team substate pool, upset Topeka West 26-28, 25-17, 25-16 in the semifinals.

The Bethel College volleyball team ended its Senior Night with a five-set win over McPherson Saturday at Thresher Gym. Bethel downed the Bulldogs 20-25, 25-13, 24-26, 25-16, 15-12.

Railers give Derby a scare in the first half

DERBY — The Newton High School football team had Class 6A powerhouse Derby staggered in the first half, but the Panthers got off the canvas in the second half to score five unanswered touchdowns and claim a 49-20 win Friday night in AV-CTL I play in Derby. Dylan Edwards carried the ball 19 times for 295 yards and five touchdowns.
