City to vote on moving wetland park forward

The R. Michael Rhoades Wetlands Park could take an important step forward on Oct. 25, as the Newton City Commission will be asked to approve plans for the park and move forward with a bid process - even though the city will not be funding construction.

Kansas hasn’t paid for medically necessary interpreting services.

For the past three years, I have been in conversations with Spanish-speaking families, bilingual health practitioners, interpreters and health care administrators to try to understand why Kansas health care institutions cannot consistently provide qualified interpreting services for individuals who need them.

Sub-State volleyball roundup

ANDOVER — The Newton High School volleyball team fell in the finals of the Class 5A sub-state tournament Saturday in Andover. The Railers, seeded 10th in the 18-team substate pool, upset Topeka West 26-28, 25-17, 25-16 in the semifinals.

Sports briefs

The Bethel College volleyball team ended its Senior Night with a five-set win over McPherson Saturday at Thresher Gym. Bethel downed the Bulldogs 20-25, 25-13, 24-26, 25-16, 15-12.
