Effect of Master-Brand idling on unemployment not yet known

The effect of MasterBrand idling its Newton manufacturing facility on unemployment numbers is not yet known - but what is known is prior to the Dec. 5 announcement there were 391 residents of Harvey Count unemployed, according to unemployment data released by the Kansas Department of Labor and the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Are they crazy? At the last city commission meeting it appeared to me that most of the commission are determined to raise Newton’s water rates in January 2023. With the rate of inflation being the highest in forty years our commissioners appear to be blind to the plain Newton citizens are currently having to deal with higher prices for food, gas and electricity.

Cold-shooting Railer girls fall to Maize South

The Newton High School girls’ basketball team hit just 15 percent from the field (six of 40), falling to Maize South 59-19 Friday in Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Division I play at Ravenscroft Gym. Maize was 24 of 43 shooting.
