“Mom, don’t close your eyes,” said an anxious little voice by my side. I was taking advantage of several quiet moments after lunch with thoughts of catching up on lack of sleep.

Top-ranked Maize South (KBCA, Class 5A) had its way with the Newton High School, topping the Railers 85-35 Friday in Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Division I play at Ravenscroft Gym. Maize South improves to 3-0, 2-0 in league play.
PREP GIRLS Wheat State League Goessel 41, Rural Vista 26 GOESSEL — The Goessel High School girls’ basketball team had seven players score, while Rural Vista had just three score in a 4126 Goessel win Friday to open Wheat State League play.
The Newton High School girls’ basketball team hit just 15 percent from the field (six of 40), falling to Maize South 59-19 Friday in Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Division I play at Ravenscroft Gym. Maize was 24 of 43 shooting.
