Fred W. Walters Jr. 65 died January 15, 2023, at his rural Newton residence. He was born January 8, 1958, in Kansas City, Missouri to Fred Sr. and Christinia O. (Welcome) Walters. On May 25, 1997, he married Margie “Midge” Fehrenbach in Wichita, Kansas and she survives at home. Fred served his country in the United States Marine Corps where he was honorably discharged. Following his time in the military, Fred dedicated his time to many crafts. Most remember him though as their barber. He enjoyed the work and loved conversing with people from all walks of life that sat in his chair. When Fred was not at work, you could catch him working on a honey-do, playing with his dog, or making a breakfast run with one of his kids. He loved most of all spending time with his family. Fred is survived by his wife Midge; sons Jeremy (Alexandra) Walters and Christopher Walters; daughter Caileen (Hunter) Webster. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents. Funeral service with Marine Honor Guard will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 20, 2023, at the Petersen Family Funeral Chapel in Newton, Kansas with Pastor Tony D’Olio presiding. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, January 19, 2023 with family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A private family internment has been planned. Memorial donations may be made to Caring Hands Humane Society and left in care of Petersen Family Funeral Home

Kansas Farm Bureau had a good 2022 as evidenced by the Pinnacle and New Horizon awards it received at the American Farm Bureau’s 104th convention recently. The Pinnacle award is the highest honor a state Farm Bureau can earn for program and membership achievement. KFB received the New Horizon award, which highlights innovative new programs, for the Casten Fellows Program, developed to honor the life of staffer Jill Casten-Downing through leadership development and international travel.
