Editorial: Difficult discussions coming this week

There are a pair of work sessions coming up next week that warrant attention - the board of education will talk about dropping enrollment, while the Newton city commission will talk utility rates. Neither is a discussion that anyone really wants to have.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

What is a ‘met tower?’ Wanted to take the opportunity to provide details to the residents of Harvey County about meteorological (MET) towers – what they are and what they do. I’d also like to explain the four conditional use permits that have been submitted for consideration to the Harvey County Planning and Zoning commission.

Let’s talk: Trash fees in Newton

Editor’s note: This is the third of a series of columns by Lance Gormley looking at the Newton utility bill, or “water bill”. Upcoming topics include sewer, trash, the PUF, and conclusions. Gormley recently worked through a Wichita State University internship with the city commission, during which he was able to look closely at the utility rates.
