What is really fair In the March 2 paper, there were stories and letters to the Editor illustrating that many people need some vocabulary lessons. Then, when they speak words, they can use the correct word and understand the correct meaning of those words.

Goessel boys fall in 1A-I semifinals

GOESSEL — The Goessel High School boys’ basketball team fell to Elyria Christian 57-28 Friday in the semifinals of the Class 1A, Division I substate tournament in Goessel. Elyria led 15-11 after the first quarter, 22-16 at the half and 39-21 after the third.

Hesston girls fall too far behind Cheney

LYONS — The Hesston High School girls’ basketball team fell behind too far too early and spent the rest of the game playing catch up in a 52-36 loss to top-seeded Cheney Saturday in the Class 3A sub-state finals in Lyons. Hesston was outscored 12-0 from 3-point range.

U.S. Declining in Science Research

China is now leading the U.S. in 37 of 44 technology fields, according to the March 2, 2023 summary by The Guardian. Their data comes from the Australian Strategic Policy Institute that looked at the top ten-percent of cited papers worldwide across science fields. This confirms an earlier August 10, 2022 release by Japan’s National Institute of Science and Technology that examined the top one percent of highly cited research papers worldwide and found China now produced 27.2 percent while the U.S. followed with 24.9 percent. In total output of research papers during 2018-2020, Chinese researchers published 407,181 while U.S. researchers only wrote 293,434.
