Fighting for schools has a long history in Walton

Hesston boys get preview of state with win over Haven

LYONS — In a game perhaps better suited for next week at the Hutchinson Sports Arena, the Hesston Swather boys’ basketball team was able to hold off Central Kansas League rival Haven 47-41 Saturday in the championship game of the Class 3A sub-state tournament in Lyons. Hesston, 22-1, takes on 20-3 Colby at 8 p.m.

Goessel boys fall in 1A-I semifinals

GOESSEL — The Goessel High School boys’ basketball team fell to Elyria Christian 57-28 Friday in the semifinals of the Class 1A, Division I substate tournament in Goessel. Elyria led 15-11 after the first quarter, 22-16 at the half and 39-21 after the third.

Hesston girls fall too far behind Cheney

LYONS — The Hesston High School girls’ basketball team fell behind too far too early and spent the rest of the game playing catch up in a 52-36 loss to top-seeded Cheney Saturday in the Class 3A sub-state finals in Lyons. Hesston was outscored 12-0 from 3-point range.
