Wildcats take to the court

The Harvey County Wildcats recently hosted a basketball game at Newton High School as the team prepares for the Special Olympics Kansas State Basketball Tournament. The team took on the Hutchison Hawks.

Daniel Jay Phenneger Sr, 66, passed away at his home in Farmington, NM, in the early hours of Sunday, Mar. 5, 2023, after a battle with lung cancer. Memorial/Celebration of Life will be determined at a later date. He is preceded in death by his father, Howard Jay Phenneger Jr.; Mother, Lois Robinson; and Son, Jeremy Chard. Survivors include his brother, Kevan Phenneger Sr. (Jeanie), and sister Cindi Clark (Carman); his children, Daniel Phenneger Jr., Kendra Fuentes, and Keylee Rogers (Dan); Niece, Amy Phenneger (Zach); Nephews, Kevan Phenneger Jr. (Amber) and Derrick Phenneger (Tressa); Grandchildren, Dakota, Shelbie, Dawson, and Morgan Chard. Daniel and Salvator. Ronin Phenneger. Averi Rogers and Sophia Sweetland; and a host of cousins, and great nieces and nephews.

Heavenly Views on the Farm

As spring slowly approaches, my two children and I have spent a considerable amount of time in vehicles as of late getting to or from practices well into the evenings. While in town, light poles illuminate our Main Street, a flashing red light brightens the main intersection, light streams from the windows of local businesses, and porch lights brighten otherwise dark sidewalks.

Epp takes his artist’s eye to Central Asia in museum program

Phil Epp may be best known for paintings that evoke the wide-open spaces of the Great Plains and American Southwest, but his love for art has taken him across the world. He will share some of his experiences in “Images of Art and Design in Central Asia,” one of Kauffman Museum’s periodic Sunday-Afternoon- at-the-Museum programs at 3 p.m.
