Thresher flag football team makes home debut

The first-year Bethel College women’s flag football team finally got to come home Wednesday afternoon, falling to Midland 40-0 in KCAC play. With a roster of 11 players, including six freshmen, three sophomores, a junior and a senior – nearly all new to the sport – the Threshers are trying to learn against some of the better teams in the KCAC in their first three games.

HESSTON — The first-year Hesston College women’s flag football team got a measuring stick of its progress Wednesday afternoon in a 37-13 loss to Midland University at Sieber Field. The game was the first for the Larks against a fouryear college, one of the better schools in the region.

Bethel softball team splits to snap skid

The Bethel College softball team finally regained the winning touch in a split against rival Tabor Wednesday in KCAC play at Wedel Field. Tabor scored a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning to win the first game 7-6, but the Threshers came back to win the nightcap 4-2.

Smoke-free parks could be coming this year

The days of lighting up, or vaping, in Newton’s parks could be numbered - there is a group planning to approach the city for smoking bans in city parks. “On of our focuses for the year is to have tobacco free parks in Newton,” said Aline Banderia, a member of the Tobacco Control Leadership Team and a Chronic Disease Risk Reduction Coordinator for the Harvey County Health Department during a presentation to Harvey County D-Fy this week.
