Newton hosts invitational Thursday McPHERSON — The Newton High School boys’ golf team finished 10th Thursday at the McPherson Invitational at the Turkey Creek Golf Course. Derby topped the field at 302, 28 strokes ahead of McPherson.

Railer softball team splits at Hutchinson

HUTCHINSON — The Newton High School softball team had a solid outing and a not-so-solid outing against Hutchinson Thursday in Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Division I play at the Fun Valley Sports Complex in Hutchinson. Newton won the first game 14-4 and lost the second game 13-3.

Sandoval, Houser combine to shock Central

Newton High School junior Izzy Sandoval hit the two shots heard round Class 5A Tuesday with a pair of goals to lift the Railer girls’ soccer team to a 2-1 win over previously unbeaten Andover Central Tuesday in non-league play at Fischer Field.
