HCC golfers win fourth-straight Jayhawk title

Making its final tuneup before the post-season, the Hutchinson Community College men’s golf team won its fourth-straight Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference title Monday and Tuesday at Sand Creek Station. The Blue Dragons finished the three-round tournament with a team score of 867, three strokes over par.

Becker named AD of the year

USD 373 Newton athletic director Brian Becker was named the Kansas Interscholastic Athletic Administrator’s Association’s District 1 Athletic Director of the Year this week. The winners were nominated by Kansas athletic directors and selected by the KIAAA Members and KIAAA Past President Council.

Prayer and the BOE “Freedom of Religion” also means Freedom FROM Religion. Over the years I have attended many organizational meetings that were opened by prayer and each time they made me feel uncomfortable as this practice may be appropriate for a congregational meeting it is not for a business meeting. The practice of prayer in public is inherently non-inclusive, note there are at least 35 churches in Newton? There is an assumption that all present have the same worship practices as the person leading the prayer and/or that everyone present prays.

Central Kansas League Hesston 15, Nickerson 0 Hesston 17, Nickerson 1 HUTCHINSON — The Hesston Swather softball team claimed a pair of wins over Nickerson Tuesday at the Fun Valley Sports Complex. Hesston won the first game 15-0 in three innings on the 15-run rule.

The Newton High School softball team made a couple of impressive comebacks, but were too far in the hole early, dropping a pair of games to Maize Tuesday in AV-CTL I play at Kelsch Field. Newton lost the first game 15-12 and the second game 19-12.
