Berean boys win Nightingale title

HALSTEAD — The Berean Academy Warriors were the top finishing area team at the 52nd Conrad Nightingale Invitational high school track meet Friday in Halstead. The Berean boys topped the 16-school field, while the Warrior girls were third.

Tax truce is holding, but it’s time to finish the job

In 2019, the Governors of Kansas and Missouri both committed to a truce, pausing the pointless, destructive tax border war. Prior to that, KC-area companies would regularly leverage millions of dollars from their respective states in order to move just a few miles across the state line. Waddell and Reed received $62 million to move from Kansas to Missouri, while AMC Theaters got over $21 million to move from Missouri to Kansas.

Prairie View to open one of first emergency units in state

Prairie View will be creating a urgent care unit for mental health on its Newton campus - one of the first units of its kind in the state. “This program will meet the needs of individuals who may be detained in jail or housed in the local Emergency Department who would more appropriately benefit from mental health services,” says Marcy Johnson, Prairie View President and CEO.

Newton competes in two meets this week HAYSVILLE — The Newton High School boys’ track team placed second, while the Railer girls placed third Friday at the 11-team Campus Invitational in Haysville. The Bishop Carroll boys topped Newton 147-83.

Thresher flag football team falls to USM

The Bethel College women’s flag football team ended its first regular season with a 22-0 loss to Saint Mary Saturday at Thresher Stadium. Bethel was without starting quarterback Kyah Rome due to injury.
