For the construction of a Ben Franklin distribution center east of Newton the clock was winding down – an agreement for the sale of land by the Newton City/County Airport signed in 2022 set a deadline for construction of May 2025 for ground to be broken.
For the past several years enrollment in Newton USD has been on the decline, a decline that led to the closure of one of the district’s elementary schools. At the time, in 2023, projections were showing enrollment declines for several more years.
The Harvey County Commission settled on how to support a proposed road project to widen East First Street from the eastern city limits of Newton to Oliver Road, which serves Newton City/County Airport.
