A Kansas commission says state lawmakers should get a 50% pay raise

A Kansas commission is recommending a nearly 50% increase to state lawmaker pay to provide them a fairer wage.The bipartisan Legislative Compensation Committee on Thursday unanimously voted to recommend a proposal that calls for raising lawmaker pay from an average compensation of $29,000 to an annual salary of $43,000.

Last month WalletHub released its list of “Best and Worst Cities for Women”, ranking 182 large cities across the country.Two Kansas cities — Wichita and Overland Park — made the rankings along with Kansas City, MO.Though their positions couldn’t be more drastically different.Overland Park ranked 8th in the country for best cities for women while Wichita ranked 149th.

Healthy Harvey launching county-wide book club

There’s no irony lost on Lori Kessler, Healthy Harvey Coalition Coordinator for the Harvey County Health Department, that she and the health department are launching a county-wide book club to read a book titled “13 Ways to Kill Your Community.”“It is a very interesting title, it is eye catching,” Kessler said.She said the book is a bit of reverse psychology, written with a sense of humor.
