It’s a tradition now 30 years old, the Newton Mid-Kansas Symphony Orchestra offering up a summer chamber music series. The Summer Chamber Music series originated in 1994 as the Harvey Music Festival, a collaboration developed by James Jones and former NMKSO manager Don Kehrberg. The first concerts of classical and parlor music were held in the Historic Warkentin House.

There could be an update to the Harvey County purchasing policy coming, fueled by questions asked during budget work sessions and a struggle to purchase used equipment by some departments. What has become an issue in the eyes of some commissioners is situations where the county has “lost out” on used equipment as department heads awaited approval of the purchase by the county commission.“Used equipment is there and [the purchase] good for that day,” said commissioner Randy Hague.Recently the road and bridge department lost out on a truck – department heads found the truck and inspected it.
There are currently three third party candidates for president: Robert F.
Kendra Davila, director of Peace Connections, can hardly hide her excitement about this summer’s SEAK program.
The first weekend of June was the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks free fishing weekend, and just as they have done for several years a local ministry made use of the day.Eternal Life Street Ministry hosted the fifth annual “Fishing for Souls” at Athletic Park June 1.The minstry hosted a fishing contest for children, providing free bait for contest participants. The ministry also provided a barbecue meal for participating families.Prizes included donated fishing gear. All photos by Michele Clark, Newton Kansan.
