Sinkhole leads to temporary road closure
Just how big a problem a sinkhole which opened up two weeks ago in Walton Township will be has not been defined – but it has led to at least the temporary closure of North Osage Road, north of Northeast 72nd Street.“When I was out there [May 31] it looked like was undercutting the road slightly,” said Anthony Swartzendruber, county administrator.He and county staff have been charged with researching solutions to the problem – a problem that has grown larger in the last week.A depression on the other side of the road, which the township has dealt with for years, has “opened up” in the last week according to township trustee Mike Spangler.“This thing now encompasses our entire right of way of this from east to west,” Spanger said.
