An estimated 70,000 lights are being placed by volunteers at Dyck Arboretum of the Plains in Hesston as preparation for “Prairie Lights.”And if those lights were not enough, opening night will feature a portable planetarium on the arboretum grounds, Ron Mallory will operate his Ad Astra Mobile Planetarium coming to Prairie Lights Nov.

The Newton High School girls’ wrestling team will have extraordinary depth in just its sixth season of action.Newton coach Tommy Edgmon reports more than 30 girls have come out for the team this season, which may allow the Railers to fill every weight class.Edgmon is assisted by Matt Treaster, who leads the team on the mat, along with Emily Torres and three-time Railer state medalist Jaymie Murry.Newton was 3-2 in Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Division I dual meets last season, the most scorable league dual meets the Railers have ever competed in.
The Newton Panther Homeschool girls’ basketball team will have a new coach and five returning starters for the upcoming season.Hannah Busenitz is in her first season as the head coach.
The Newton Homeschool Panther boys’ basketball team lost a few players to graduation, but will be returning a number of players as well.The Panthers will be coached this season by Michael Busenitz, in his first season.Newton was 8-16 last season, 2-3 in league play.
