Harvey county soil has a lot of clay. I grew up in the sand hills a little bit West of here where the soil is SANDY. In sand you can dig by hand all day long. Sand has its good points in that water drains or permeates well after heavy rains so plants don’t sit in excess water very long. The only thing we did to improve sand was add organic matter to actually help hold moisture longer and add nutrients. Working in Harvey County for many years I have learned that this clay soil is vastly different than sand.

Trump’s executive orders can make change — but are limited and can be undone by the courts
Before his inauguration, Donald Trump promised to issue a total of 100 or so executive orders once he regained the presidency. These orders are expected to reset government policy on everything from immigration enforcement to diversity initiatives to environmental regulation. They also aim to undo much of Joe Biden’s presidential legacy.

Amish Cook: Unique twists in family time
Family times have had their unique twists this past week. A combination of fevers, stories, songs, coughing fits, nights with six children in the living room with mom in and out through out the night. It was not what we would have chosen, but it did end up making some worthwhile memories.
