PATRICIA SUE JEWETT (PATTY)

Patricia Sue Jewett (Patty), age 64, retired registered nurse, died on February 16, 2023 at her home in Halstead following a lengthy illness.

Patty was born in Kansas City, Missouri to James and Mildred Anderson. She grew up in Overland Park, Kansas where she met her husband, Mitch, in high school. They married in her parent’s backyard in 1983 and moved to Halstead in 1986.

Patty graduated from Research School of Nursing with her RN in 1981 and Kansas Newman College, with her BSN, in 1993. She worked in a variety of inpatient units at Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Halstead Hospital, and Newton Medical Center, but she enjoyed working in nursing education the most. She used that education experience to homeschool her son, John, when he came along.

Patty loved exploring secondhand thrift stores and was always bringing home new treasures, to Mitch’s vexation. She had a weakness for yard art, vintage purses, books, and material for sewing projects. She had a different purse for every outfit. Mitch once offered to purchase a Coach purse for her, but she declined, as she would rather have twenty old purses compared to having just one new one. Patty had an astonishing love for books as they are seen lining numerous bookshelves throughout the home. She was often seen curling up with a good murder mystery with a cat nearby. Patty also loved sewing and has left a sewing room filled with material waiting for a future quilting project. One of Patty’s many joys was raising chickens, especially when Mitch did the chicken chores. The same goes with having cats, as long as Mitch emptied the litter box Patty was happy.

Patty had a big heart and opened her home up to anyone in need, be it family or friend, everyone was always welcome, the more laughter, the better. Patty was second mother to many and those who called to her “hey Mama” know who you are, she loved all of you like her own. And to her close lady friends, thank you for filling our home with love and laughter.

She is survived by her husband Mitch of the home, son John (Melissa) of Valley Center, sister Debbie Anderson of Wichita, niece Jennifer (Eduardo) Zamudio of Richmond, Missouri, niece Tammy (Robert) Hall of Jasper, Texas, niece Ada Moore of Newton, niece Alex (Kelly) Johnson of Wichita.

Preceded in death by her parents, James and Mildred Anderson and her sisters Shirley Payne and Sandie Richey.

Memorial service will be at the Halstead Baptist Church, 525 Harvey Street, Halstead, KS on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 11am, lunch will be served following the service.
