After ‘lock-in’ juvenile arrested for criminal threat

One juvenile was arrested and charged with aggravated criminal threat, a felony, at about 5 p.m. Oct. 9 following statements made insinuating violence against Newton High School.

The threats led to Newton High School issuing a “lock-in” order at about 4:25 p.m. Oct. 9, during parent-teacher conferences and volleyball games at the school.

During the lock-in, no one was allowed in or out of the school.

Chisholm Middle School was also placed on a soft lockdown.

The lock-in was lifted at shortly before 5 p.m., when conferences and volleyball continued.

The juvenile was arrested by the Newton Police Department, and taken to the Community Corrections Juvenile Intake office as is procedure. The juvenile was placed in detention.
