Newton Public Library will host its first-ever Local Author Day

• 10:30 a.m.: Join co-editor Leslie VonHolten for a panel discussion of “Kansas Matters.” New from the University of Kansas Press, this anthology of poetry and prose brings together 35 of today’s leading literary voices from the Sunflower State, exploring how Kansas makes us feel and why we’re proud to call it home.

• 1:30-3:30 p.m.: Browse books, chat with authors, and discover new local reads during the author fair.

• 4 p.m.: Stick around for an author talk with Laurie Dove, whose debut novel, “Mask of the Deer Woman,” was released earlier this year.

10 a.m. to noon — Second Saturday, Carriage Factory Gallery, 128 E. Sixth. Create with us on the Second Saturday of the month. Themed make and take creations will be provided every second Saturday through the year for ages 4-10. Free and open to the public. Donations always welcomed. Funded by the Ericka J. Stucky Scholarship Fund and various patrons.
